Getting the Most from Your Pilates Class
The first step towards a healthier body and mind
is signing up for a pilates class. While some people sign up for
pilates without really knowing much about this incredible form of
exercise, most people are already aware that pilates is one of the
best all-round forms of exercise for toning and redefining the muscles
of your body, while also calming your mind and helping you to release
stress and tension.
Getting the most from your pilates
class involves a few things. First it requires commitment. Although
you may feel like your muscles are on fire after your first few
workouts or you may imagine that you will never be able to round
your back while holding your ankles, you will discover that over
time you will become far more flexible than you imagined. At the
same time your strength, stamina and endurance will increase until
you suddenly find yourself successfully attempting the more advanced
moves – naturally, to get there you must be committed to your
pilates class.
The second thing you must do to get the most from
your pilates class is to understand why you are there. Is it for
general, over-all health reason? Did you want to increase your flexibility?
Were you looking for a way to tone your muscles? Or did you just
want to get out and get into shape while meeting with like-minded
individuals? Whatever your reasons for joining a pilates class,
as long as you remain focused on your initial motivation, then you
will be more inclined to continue pushing yourself even on days
when you would much rather sit in front of the TV.
The third way of getting the most from your pilates
class is by setting goals for yourself. Chances are if you have
never taken a pilates class before you have a hard time finishing
the exercises during the first few classes. You may not even be
able to perform some of the harder positions. By setting small goals
for yourself, you will be able to work at your own pace and see
results far quicker than if you tried pushing yourself too hard
and then giving up.
The last thing to do in order to get the most
from your pilates class is to be patient with yourself and to allow
yourself the time you need to perfect each move before attempting
the next one. Once you have accepted yourself and your limitations
at each stage, you will be able to concentrate on perfecting your
body and moving forward at your own pace – and therein lies
the real success.
