Is buying a used Pilates equipment a good idea?
Buying exercise equipment can be an expensive
proposal. Most decent exercise equipment will set you back a few
hundred dollars – the same is true when it comes to buying
Pilates equipment. So, what exactly is someone to do if they would
like to set up a home Pilates studio – but have to work within
a budget? Well, they can always opt to purchase used Pilates equipment.
Many people might ask is buying a used piece of Pilates equipment
a good idea? The straight answer is “yes” – for
most equipment.
Naturally if you are simply wanting to buy a Pilates
mat or a some resistance bands or even a Pilates circle –
it would be better to buy such things new as they are relatively
inexpensive to begin with and because they are used in such close
contact with the body, unless their previous owner was fastidious
about wiping them down after every workout – they will have
some amount of sweat and grime accumulated on them. However, if
you are interested in buying a larger pieces of Pilates equipment
such as the Reformer or the Cadillac then going second-hand can
have its benefits.
However, before you do buy second-hand Pilates
equipment it is important to do so only from a reputable reseller
or you must be familiar enough with the equipment to know a solid
machine from one that has seen better days. If you are not knowledgeable
enough to be able to assess the condition of a piece of equipment
by yourself then have a friend who can help you come with you when
you are ready to buy. If you can, test the equipment before you
buy it. Try out different settings to see if all of the mechanisms,
gears and pulleys work. Check to see that there is no rust build-up
on any of the moveable parts and test to see that everything is
tight and working as it should. Most of all – if it does not
feel right, then walk away.
It is definitely possible to build up a beautiful
Pilates studio with used equipment – so long as you are willing
to take the time and the effort to find the right pieces.
